Getting around Melbourne
Most of our venues are easy to get to by public transport, even Essendon airport!
By train and tram
Where do I buy a ticket?
‘Metcards’ are used for train, tram and bus. You’ll find them at any station, at newsagencies and 7-11s and on trams.
How much does it cost?
It’s $3.70 for a 2-hour ticket, but don’t just listen to us. The Metlink Melbourne website lists card types, how much they cost and what’s best for your trip.
Pub Crawl and Vintage Tour folk, please note: Sunday Savers are a steal at $3.10 for a whole day of unlimited travel by train, tram and buses for both Zones! These can only be purchased from metcard retail outlets like 7-11′s or the MetShop – not from standard ticket machines.
What is this ‘myki’ shiz?
‘myki’ is a smartcard system that we’re moving across to, apparently by Easter 2010. Talk to the locals about myki to get an earful.
You can buy a myki starter pack at three places: Flinders St station, the myki Discovery Centre at Southern Cross station, and the Metshop at Melbourne Town Hall.
Not enough for you? Then find out more about myki from Metlink Melbourne.
Where can I find timetables and maps?
Check out the Metlink Melbourne site for maps and more. We will also post up Google maps directions to each venue
Taxi
Call a cab on 13 CABS (131 008). Fares work out very well if you’re travelling in a group.
Get a lift
If you’re stuck for a lift to venues, we’ll work it out on Thursday (and most other nights) when we play transport matchmaker.
